Books ♥ Books ♥ Books

books

You sacrificed half a day of your Saturday to go to a very, very sacred place called a used-books warehouse. Never mind aggravating your allergic rhinitis because of the dust and the dust mites, never mind burning a whole through your 13th-month pay. You’re now the proud owner of these children’s books, most of them hardbound, hard to find and purchased at a very bargain price:

  • Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst (so cute, reminds you of you on a very terrible, no good, very bad day except you want to move to the Galapagos instead of Australia)
  • Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman (you have a condensed board book of this one, you finally got an original copy)
  • Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina (must-have classic; plus, you already have Circus Caps for Sale)
  • Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown (must-have classic, kind of boring though :p)
  • Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss (to accompany your Horton Hears a Who, of course)
  • I Love You Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak (so cute!)
  • Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik (you only got this because the illustrator was Maurice Sendak)
  • Miracle on the 34th Street by Valentine Davies (you really don’t like it’s mushiness but Tomie dePaola was the illustrator)
  • Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner (ahh, it took you years to finally acquire a copy and got it for only 40 pesos, hardbound wow!)
  • Politically Correct Holiday Stories by James Finn Garner (you actually found this first, sobrang lucky lang na nakita mo yung Bedtime Stories next)
  • The Frog Prince Continued by Jon Scieszka (it’s by the same author of The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, you really love bedtime story parodies; as a side-note, you should ask Mas to read this)
  • The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper (classic must-have, and they gave it to you for 5 pesos because it’s torn from the cover; aside from that all the other pages are good though)
  • The Lorax by Dr. Seuss (very nice, engaging story about the environment; one could never go wrong collecting Dr. Seuss, if you’re a children’s book fanatic that is)
  • The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams (another classic must-have) AND

books Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak (waah, the very reason you joined today’s expedition -and guess what, siya unang-una mong nakita!)

P.S. Wala ka na mai-Christmas wishlist tuloy. You got new books and a pair of calf-length boots you bought a week before. Dalawang bagay nalang ang hihilingin mo: ang makapagbakasyon sa malayong-malayong lugar at… hehe. Ang mawala ang mga bwiset sa buhay mo. Die flirts die. :p
